Powered by a 2.4L flat-four boxer engine, the GR86 is not only popular on the streets but has also become a regular on race tracks worldwide. After the success of our previous Ford RS, Toyota GR, and Honda Type R direct-fit oil cooler kits, we knew we had to get one in the workshop. Our goal was simple; to design and manufacture \u003cb\u003euser-friendly\u003c\/b\u003e, easy-to-install kits that require either \u003cb\u003eno\u003c\/b\u003e, or \u003cb\u003every little\u003c\/b\u003e modifications. The front end of the GR86 was removed to give our development team full access to the new external oil cooler mounting position and to plan the routing for the braided hoses. This also allowed for the design and fabrication of any custom bracketry needed for a \u003cb\u003eprecise fit\u003c\/b\u003e. To ensure a \u003cb\u003eperfect fitment\u003c\/b\u003e, we \u003cb\u003e3D laser scanned\u003c\/b\u003e the front of the engine bay and ancillaries. Once an oil cooler bracket was designed using the threaded ports located on the factory bumper support, we tested a 3D-printed prototype and then manufactured the final aluminium version. All HEL direct-fitting oil cooler brackets are laser cut, precision folded, and powdercoated in Black to result in a \u003cb\u003estealthy\u003c\/b\u003e finish. Promoting direct airflow, the \u003cb\u003eSetrab\u003c\/b\u003e oil cooler was securely mounted behind the main lower bumper grill, proving as the most suitable location for \u003cb\u003eeffective cooling\u003c\/b\u003e and performance. Having an oil cooler fail or even burst is not something you want to experience, especially in demanding conditions and that is something we have \u003cb\u003enever\u003c\/b\u003e seen with Setrab's build quality. In the past, we've even had reports of front-end collisions and the Setrab oil cooler was the only component that still worked! Delivered with \u003cb\u003epre-assembled\u003c\/b\u003e braided hoses and Aluminium fittings, our comprehensive kit has everything required for a \u003cb\u003estraightforward installation\u003c\/b\u003e. Using AN10 high-flow performance hose to deliver and return oil from the external oil cooler, this kit also includes a \u003cb\u003ebespoke\u003c\/b\u003e oil filter take-off plate, which is equipped with a \u003cb\u003ebuilt-in thermostat\u003c\/b\u003e. The thermostat ensures that your engine oil flows to the external oil cooler \u003cb\u003eonly\u003c\/b\u003e when the oil reaches the desired temperature (\u003cb\u003e92°C\u003c\/b\u003e \/ 198°F). Around 10% of the engine oil circulates through the oil cooler at any given time, this ensures a continuous flow that \u003cb\u003eprevents\u003c\/b\u003e air pockets and safeguards against thermal shock to the system. The surplus oil is then channelled back to the engine through the internal bypass system, promoting \u003cb\u003efaster warm-up\u003c\/b\u003e, providing added \u003cb\u003esafeguarding\u003c\/b\u003e in cold weather conditions, and \u003cb\u003eeliminates\u003c\/b\u003e the risk of overcooling. Included with every kit is an easy-to-read installation manual.
